Overview

Wheelock Family Theatre at Boston University is seeking a freelance videographer to provide video production support for three productions during the 2026/2027 season. The videographer will work with the Marketing & Communications team to create engaging video content primarily for social media that promotes each production, showcases the cast and creative process, and captures the audience experience.

Productions

 

For each production, the videographer will complete approximately three filming sessions and three primary video deliverables.

  1. Behind the Scenes Video
    – Timing: Approximately 2 weeks before opening
    – Shoot: 1 to 2 hours
    – Capture rehearsal B-roll, cast interviews, behind-the-scenes moments, and production details
    – Deliver one edited video to build excitement for the upcoming production
  2. Production Preview Video
    – Timing: Approximately 2 to 3 days before opening during final dress rehearsal
    – Shoot: 1 to 3 hours
    – Capture performance footage, cast moments, set, costumes, and audio from the production
    – Deliver one edited promotional video
    – When possible, provide a longer and shorter version and/or additional usable footage for future social media content
  3. Audience Reaction Video
    – Timing: Approximately halfway through the production run
    – Shoot: 1 to 3 hours
    – Capture audience interviews and reactions during intermission and/or after performances
    – Incorporate audience testimonials with production footage
    – Deliver one edited promotional video featuring audience reactions and reviews

Estimated Time and Budget

WFT anticipates approximately 3 to 7 hours of filming per production, plus editing and post-production. Budget: Approximately $1,000 to $2,000 per production, or $3,000 to $6,000 for the full season. The fee should include filming, equipment, editing, audio editing, color correction, reasonable revisions, and delivery of final video files. When agreed upon in advance, the videographer may also provide raw footage or additional cuts for WFT’s marketing use.

Collaboration

The videographer will work directly with the Marketing & Communications manager to coordinate filming, identify key moments, review edits, and ensure content aligns with WFT’s marketing goals and brand. The resulting video content will be used across WFT’s social media, email marketing, website, digital advertising, and other promotional channels.
