About SAN DIEGO SKY TOURS San Diego Sky Tours is a veteran-run commercial tour company motivated by a passion for aviation. All of San Diego Sky Tours sightseeing flights are approved by the Federal Aviation Administration. San Diego Sky Tours began in 2009 as part of a college business plan competition and a dream to establish a locally based leader in aerial adventures. James “Cap” Kapenas (USMC) and his then partner Ryan “Big Daddy” Poortinga (USAF) came to Montgomery-Gibbs Field with a single engine Cessna and a vision.
