My father and I have different approaches to how we like to discuss photography. My father always believed the camera to be the least important aspect of the conversation, instead focusing on darkroom work, editing, or framing. That didn’t mean he didn’t love his cameras, only that he felt it photography often was reduced to equipment. And while I agree that the camera isn’t what makes a photo, it is inherently important to the image-making process. To that end, Tom’s photos are arranged in a simple gallery together while mine are arranged by the camera they were shot on. Tom speaks of his work well after the photo is developed while I speak of it more in the process of the initial shutter press. Together, I think we tell a complete story.”
