What a Denver cameraman or camera crew costs
No Denver crew on this page lists a rate on ProductionHelp, so price comes from quotes. The City side is cheap: Denver does not currently charge for the Film Operational Permit itself. What can add cost is other agencies’ permit fees and paid staffing, such as police officers, when a shoot affects streets or crowds.
| Item | Denver cost |
|---|---|
| Camera operator or crew for a day | Not published, request quotes |
| Studio day or cinema camera rental | Not published, ask MFG, Void, Photospace or MP&E |
| Film Operational Permit | $0 (no fee charged as of October 2026) |
| Street, sidewalk or parking lane use | Separate DOTI street occupancy permit, plus any staffing costs |
Permit figures come from the City and County of Denver film permitting guide as of October 2026. For how crew quotes are built, read what a camera operator actually costs and day rate versus project rate.
How to hire a cameraman, camera crew or film crew in Denver

Decide whether your shoot is complex. Denver treats street, alley or sidewalk closures, exclusive use of a park, police or fire coordination, drones and generators over 5 kW as complex, which moves the permit deadline from 5 to 10 business days. Write those details into a video production brief before you ask for quotes.

Match the crew to the job. For a commercial or brand spot, Denver Film Company, Voca Films or Noble Bison. For tabletop, stop-motion or effects work, Otherworldly Productions. For unscripted series, Citizen Pictures. For a conference at a downtown hotel or convention venue, Autumn Leaves. For a satellite media tour or cable news hit, MFG Studios.

Book the gear and space separately if you need to. If you bring your own director of photography, MP&E rents cinema cameras, lenses and grip, and Void Studios or Photospace rents cyc stages. Movie Mogul can line up crew, gear and locations for a visiting team.

Filming permits in Denver
- Who issues it: Denver Arts & Venues, through its Public Event and Film Permitting team, issues the Film Operational Permit through an online portal. Questions go to denverfilms@denvergov.org.
- Deadlines: at least 5 business days before filming for non-complex projects and 10 business days for complex ones. Late or incomplete applications are not accepted.
- Streets and sidewalks: filming in streets, sidewalks, alleys or parking lanes also needs a Special Event Revocable Street Occupancy Permit from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure. That applies when you close or restrict a street or sidewalk, use traffic control, take parking or have 10 or more people on a sidewalk. Send a certificate of insurance and a site plan 10 business days ahead.
- Drones: any drone operation makes the project complex under the City’s guide, and pilots also need FAA Part 107 certification and airspace clearance.
- Private property: an office, studio or home shoot with the owner’s permission does not use City property, so check with the permit team only if crew, trucks or equipment spill onto the street.
